And the Ampersand

A music and photography blog.
The Album of the Day is ‘My Head Is An Animal’ by Of Monsters and Men. They’ve been described as the “Icelandic Mumford and Sons” and drawn comparisons to Arcade Fire. Although being nearly the size of Arcade Fire, with six members, sonically they share a lot more with the English nu-folk heroes. The foundation of the band is built on the shared vocals and harmonizing of Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson. Horns and upbeat rhythms only add to their uplifting sound. Forming in 2007 this indie folk band have taken four years to release their debut album, but it’s well worth the wait. They’ve quickly gained notice outside of their home of Reykjavik, Iceland getting radio play as far away as Seattle, Washington. For fans of Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, The Civil Wars, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and The xx. Click on the album cover to listen to ‘King and Lionheart’.
